Job Title: CUSTODIAN

SUMMARY: Responsible for the uninterrupted and comfortable operation of the assigned school facility, ensuring that the standards of cleanliness, sanitation, safety and security are met.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
- Performs scheduled housekeeping duties as required.
- Assumes specific housekeeping duties such as:
Sweeping and/or vacuuming floors in classrooms, offices, hallways, etc.
Dusting of furniture, walls, horizontal surfaces, etc.
Cleaning chalkboards
Trash disposal
Cleaning and sanitation of restrooms
Cleaning glass
- Carries out other duties such as:
Snow removal
Grounds maintenance
Building security
Raising and lowering flags
Maintain supplies inventory
- Operates the buildings mechanical and electrical systems as required.
- Maintains a safe building. This includes cooperating with inspecting agencies, the use of good safety practices, and maintenance of housekeeping equipment.
- Makes minor repairs to buildings and housekeeping equipment within his or her resources; and as housekeeping duties allow.
- Required to maintain physical condition to be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Reports damage and/or maintenance needs to supervisor.
- Assists in setup of school sponsored events as well as events when facility is rented by the public.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with the administration, staff, students, and the public.
The above performance responsibilities are not all inclusive and may be altered or added to by the Maintenance Director, Business Manager, Superintendent of Schools, and/or Board of Trustees.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - Must have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the district.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT - The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; and vibration of machinery. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

DRUG FREE WORKPLACE - Screening tests for alcohol and illegal drug use may be required before hiring and during your employment in the Lewistown Public Schools. Employees of Lewistown Public Schools must submit to a fingerprint criminal background check. Any appointment will be contingent upon the results of the criminal background report received from the Department of Justice, which must be acceptable to the Board of Trustees, in its sole discretion.
